How to Upload Your Videos to Google Photos

Before you can rotate a video, upload it to Google Photos.

How to Rotate Your Videos in Google Photos

After the video has been uploaded to your Google account, change the rotation.

Limitations

You can rotate any video you filmed and downloaded to your phone. You cannot rotate videos you downloaded from the internet. The video needs to be saved to your phone and then uploaded to Google Photos to adjust it properly. When you rotate a video, you rotate the orientation. If you shot a video in portrait and then tilted the phone to landscape, you can properly rotate it. However, if you shot the video in portrait mode and it was recorded that way, instead of switching the orientation, it rotates the video so that it is sideways. You can’t change the orientation of a video from your phone. Instead, you’ll need movie editing software such as iMovie for Mac or Windows Movie Maker. These programs rotate a video and change the orientation so that it looks the way you want.

Other Options

While the easiest option to rotate photos is Google Photos, other apps can rotate videos. However, most of these apps include ads, require you to pay for their services, or have usability issues. Two top-rated video rotation apps are Rotate Video FX and Smart Video Rotate and Flip.
