Show Chromebook’s Process Memory, CPU, and Network Usage

On a regular PC, you might use an app like Task Manager to see how much memory, CPU, or network bandwidth an app is using. On a Chromebook, you’ll need to use the Chromebook Task Manager.

Use System Page to See All Chromebook Specs

If you want to see the bulk of your Chromebook system specs all in one place, the System Page is the perfect place to check. To access the System Page, open a Chrome Browser on your Chromebook and in the browser bar, type chrome://system. This will open an About System page with a long list of system specs. There is a mountain of information tucked into this list. To dig deeper into the details, scroll down to the item you want, then select Expand. For example if you want to see a full breakdown of memory usage, scroll down to the meminfo item, then select Expand. This shows you free, available, cache, active, inactive memory, and much more.

See Chromebook’s Network Connection Info

It’s also very easy to view the connection status, IP, and other information about your active network connection.

View Chrome OS Info

A quick way to check the version and other information about your Chrome OS is to open the Settings menu, then select About Chrome OS from the left menu. This will show you the platform version, firmware version, last build date, and more.

Check Chromebook’s Available Storage

Storage on a Chromebook is very different than storage on a Windows or Mac computer. A Chromebook has two types of storage, both local storage and cloud storage. Local storage is an SSD, mostly used as a cache and for downloaded files. Cloud storage is your Google Drive account, and this is where the bulk of your saved files and other work should go. Checking the available storage of each from your Chromebook is very easy.

Check Local Storage

Check Google Drive Cloud Storage

To see the available storage on your Google Drive account, select the Launcher icon at the lower-left corner of the screen, then select the Google Drive icon. Once Google Drive opens, you can see the available storage space at the bottom of the left navigation pane. You’ll see both total storage and available storage.
