The new Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 include a suite of new changes and features, as well as the latest version of Samsung’s One UI launcher. Chief among these features is the Protect Battery option, which SamMobile reports will limit charging of the phone’s battery to 85% each time it is plugged in.  The Protect Battery feature is meant to do exactly that—protect the battery. By only charging it to 85%, the battery will ultimately last longer, as battery life deteriorates with every full charging cycle—recharging the battery to 100% of its total capacity. By limiting the amount of charge the battery can receive each period, Samsung is ultimately giving users a way to get more out of their batteries.  Protect Battery is a feature that has been available on Samsung tablets for a while now, but this is the first time we’ve seen it on a Galaxy smartphone. Even still, the update to the latest version of One UI, version 3.1.1 hasn’t brought the feature to Samsung’s Galaxy S21 series. As such, it’s unclear if it will remain a feature only seen on the company’s foldable phones, or if future smartphones in the Galaxy lineup will offer it, too. For now, At least Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 users can take advantage of the Protect Battery option to get more out of their battery’s life cycle.
