Nintendo held its E3 Direct on Tuesday, showcasing several upcoming games, as well as some revisits to past franchises that Nintendo fans love. Remasters for Super Monkey Ball and a remake for Advanced Wars are planned, as well as DLC for games like Hyrule Warriors. That’s not all, though; Nintendo also shared new details about the sequel to 2017’s The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Currently referred to by most as Breath of the Wild 2, the sequel will include the same open-world gameplay as the original, but with some added abilities and new areas to explore. The footage showcased some of the new weapons and powers that protagonist Link will have at his disposal, while also giving players a glimpse at several floating islands they will be able to explore. Nintendo hasn’t given an official release date just yet, but it did say that it is striving to drop the game in 2022. The Direct didn’t bring news about Nintendo’s planned Metroid Prime 4—a sequel to the GameCube’s first-person shooter series—but it did bring a release date and trailer for a new side-scrolling Metroid game called Metroid Dread. The new title is set to arrive on October 8 and will feature traditional Metroid combat mixed with new enemies and levels. Nintendo also revealed the next character coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate on Nintendo Switch will be Tekken fighter Kazuya Mishima. Life is Strange Remastered Collection and the upcoming sequel True Colors are also slated to release on Switch. Other third-party games slated for the Switch include Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, Worms Rumble, Astria Ascending, and Two Point Campus. Release dates vary for these titles, with some slated to release in 2022. Other announced games included Just Dance 2022, Mario Party Superstars—which features online play and release on October 29—as well as a port for Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot. Nintendo also revealed a new Mario sports game, Mario Golf Super Rush, which will include traditional golf modes alongside some new ones like speed golf and a battle golf arena mode. Nintendo also revealed a new WarioWare game for the Switch, as well as several other smaller titles which are slated to arrive between 2021 and 2022.
