Fitbit Versa Texting Limitations

If the ability to text via your Fitbit is a feature you think you’ll use often, there’s something you should know before you begin. You can respond to text messages using the Versa or Versa 2, but you cannot start a new message. Still, having the ability to respond to a text message without picking up your phone is pretty handy. For example, if your phone is in the kitchen and you’re in the living room, there’s no need to grab your phone to respond to the message that just came through from your BFF. You can do it directly from your wrist.

Enabling Text Notifications on Fitbit Versa

Before you can start responding to messages from your Versa or Versa 2, you’ll need to enable text notifications in the Fitbit app. To do that:

Enabling Quick Replies and Voice Replies

On the Fitbit Versa, the way you respond to messages is to use quick replies or emojis. There are several pre-defined Quick Replies to choose from, including:

‘Yes’ ‘No’ ‘Sounds Good!’ ‘Can’t talk now — will reply later’ ‘Whats up?’

You can also customize those Quick Replies, as long as you keep the message to 60 characters or less, including spaces. To enable and customize Quick Replies:

The Fitbit Versa 2 works exactly the same way for Quick Replies, but with Versa 2 you also have the option to use Voice Replies, which is voice-to-text for sending longer messages.
